THERE’S A NEW FOOD STREET FILLED WITH POPULAR RESTAURANTS AT TIONG BAHRU PLAZA: FRESH HANDMADE DUMPLINGS, BEEF NOODLES, HOT POT & MORE!

Tiong Bahru has always been one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Singapore, and it’s about to get even better. ICYMI, Tiong Bahru Plaza has been going through several upgrades, with plenty of brand new and exciting F&B additions to the mall, including famous restaurants and a whole new Food Street too. Not sure where to start? Here are a couple of new food spots you can check out.

1. Lead General Hotpot

While there’s plenty of hotpot options in Singapore, there’s not many that offer authentic Chongqing-style hotpot. Lead General Hotpot is one of those spots offering a premium hotpot experience, including rich soup bases and dishes served with theatrical flair.

The restaurant offers 6 unique broth options, including Classic Pork Tripe & Chicken ($6.50), General’s Inferno Spicy Beef Tallow ($7), General’s Fish Maw & Chicken ($11) and General’s Red Robe Tomato ($5). The Fish Maw and Chicken broth is our top pick: the collagen-based soup is made with a blend of 25 ingredients, and it shows—the soup is thick, creamy and silky. Must-order dishes include Signature Snowflake Wagyu Beef ($40), Double Pepper Beef ($18) and General’s Shrimp Paste ($24).

2. Du Du Dumplings

If you’re a fan of handmade dumplings, you won’t want to miss out on Du Du Dumplings. They’re a dumpling-specialty restaurant offering dumplings of all kinds: steamed, fried or filled with soup. You can even watch the staff skillfully fill and fold the dumplings by hand through the kitchen windows. They also have noodles, dumpling soup, sides and desserts too.

You can get dumplings in an assortment of fillings: stuffed with Cabbage & Pork, Prawn & Pork, Beef & Radish, Leek & Pork and more. They’re known for their Steamed Dumplings or Xiao Long Bao (from $7.50), but their Fried Dumplings or Guo Tie (from $8.50) are definitely our favourite—especially with that ultra-thin and crispy dumpling “skirt”.

3. Dapur Penyet

You don’t need to travel to Indonesia for an authentic taste of Indonesian fare: get the real deal at this popular Indonesian restaurant chain in Singapore. Dapur Penyet is known for their ayam penyet, paired with rich flavours and their selection of punchy homemade chilli sauces. It’s not often that you’re offered multiple different types of chilli sauces to choose from (much less homemade), but here they’ve got 4 house made sauces you can pick from: Balado, Padang Green, Belacan or Mercon.

You’ve got to try their Signature Ayam Penyet ($10.50) that stars fragrant and crispy smashed fried chicken; and their flavourful Gado-Gado ($8.50) that pairs perfectly with a side of keropok. Finish off with a refreshingly sweet Chendol ($5) topped with a generous serving of grass jelly, red beans and gula merah

They’re also halal-certified.

You can get their noodles in either soup or dry options: like the classic Mala Beef Noodles (from $11.90) for those who like a little bit of spice, or the Dry Chicken Noodles (from $10.90).
