Originated from Australia’s Sydney Black Star Pastry, a similar rendition of their watermelon cake is available at Cream & Custard, a bakery and cafe located in Jalan Bukit Ho Swee. Both versions of the cake consist of two layers of almond dacquoise, rose cream and watermelon slice, topped with strawberries and dried rose petals.

Singapore recently caught up with the salted-egg croissant trend that originated in Hong Kong’s Urban Bakery. With a number of cafes in Singapore introducing salted-egg croissant in their menu, the best bet – according to a number of reviews – would be Antoinette’s salted egg croissant. Seemingly a fusion dish where the sweet meets the savoury, the trend of having waffles with chicken instead of the traditional option – ice cream – hit Singapore last year, and a number of cafes have introduced chicken and waffles on the menu. One of these cafes include Sin Lee Foods, which is also known for their mao shan wang waffle and the equally-hyped salted egg sweet potato fries.

Traditionally an appetiser served in Hawaiian cuisine, Poké bowls are now popular with the masses in and outside of Hawaii. For one, Singapore is home to Aloha Poké, the first and only poké bowl bar in Singapore founded by Hell’s Kitchen Indonesia participant Michael Yonathan Raharjo.  Aloha Poké serves up delicious rice and salad bowls with poké, and is quickly gaining traction with the crowd for its fresh and yummu poké bowls.
