SINGAPORE’S FIRST RAILWAY-THEMED CAFÉ @ SOMERSET

Shinjuku Kissa Tetsudo adopts a unique concept: everything in the café is train-themed and will take you back to the time spent at Japan’s many train stations. From the live diorama track modelled after Japan’s train system complete with miniature, movable train models, to even a fun ordering system using “tickets” at their “ticket kiosk”. Even the seats mimic that of Japan’s train seating: from standard Tatami Priority Seats ($0) to premium Counter Seats ($2) where you can see the action up close.

The miniature trains even run on a set schedule, much like the trains running in Japan’s efficient railway system. If simply watching the trains isn’t enough for you, you can get hands on and rent the diorama to operate the trains yourself! Rates start from $15 for an hour to $38 for 3 hours.

The café doesn’t just provide a quirky train experience, the menu is also quite special: with hand-poured coffee (from $6) specially imported from Japan’s Coffee SAKURA as well as roll cakes ($8) in classic Japanese-inspired flavours like Strawberry, Sweet Potato and Matcha Azuki and even ekibens!

Do take note that since the café has limited space, dining-in is by appointment only via WhatsApp at 9072 4444.
