February has passed by in a whizz – and festivities aside, we welcome the arrival of March. With a week-long school break and a public holiday weekend, it’s time to start planning for the month of March 2016. 1. Singapore International Jazz Festival

Returning for its third consecutive year at Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore International Jazz Festival will be held beneath the iconic Singapore skyline against a picturesque backdrop of the Marina Bay Waterfront. With an impressive lineup featuring homegrown musician Charlie Lim and Grammy Award Winner Joss Stone, the festival promises three nights of good music and more. Ticket prices start from SGD$85 and are available on the Sing Jazz website.

2. iLight Marina Bay

iLight Marina Bay, Asia’s leading sustainable light art festival, returns for the fourth time to illuminate Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay. With the theme ‘In Praise of Shadows’, the 2016 iLight Festival will be featuring 25 light installations by creative talents from all over the world. Other than that, the festival will also offer a series of pop-up events over the course of four weekends for people of all ages to enjoy.

3. Club Berlin: An Exhibition of Electronic Music and Photography

Named after Germany’s capital, ‘Club Berlin’ is an exhibition of photography works alongside techno music which closely mimics Berlin’s club culture. The exhibition will be held at Singapore’s pioneering container art space DECK, and will showcase photography by Martin Eberle. Each art gallery will also be accompanied by the music from renown DJs such as Answer Code Request, Head High and David August. Admission fees apply.

4. WEEKEND WARRIOR Pop Up Market

Newly-established retail collective and craftsmen The Weekend Warrior will be organising their first ever event, a pop-up market located in TripleOne Somerset – where artisans and craftsmen gather as a collective dedicated to the community of makers. Retailers include HappySocks, illustrator Typevan and womenswear The Finders Label, as well as 40 over small local businesses. Other than indulging yourself in shopping, food and drinks will also be available for purchase.

5. MAAD Market @ Red Dot Design Museum

Market of Artists And Designers (MAAD) is Singapore’s largest creative marketplace initiated by Red Dot Design Museum in 2006. Unlike typical flea markets, the MAAD monthly marketplace attracts about 3000 attendees every month for a night of artisanal goods, creativity, shopping as well as musical performances by homegrown musicians.

6. Star Wars and Beyond (Orchestra)

One for the music and film lovers, the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Singapore’s home-grown professional symphony orchestra will be performing a series of music from iconic films including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park and more. 7. Urban Ventures @ Keong Saik Road

In conjunction with Singapore Design Week, the stretch of Keong Saik Road will be closed for half a day where it will be transformed into a public space design with interactive art installations, hammocks and even foosball game. Activities such as a yoga workshop, terrarium-making classes and musical performances by fellow local musicians Joie Tan, Keith Soo-Tho and more will be available for a fun-filled Saturday at Keong Saik Road.

8. Garden Beats Festival 2016

Presented by Sunshine Nation, the Garden Beats Festival – or electronic picnic festival – is an annual music festival held in Fort Canning Park where festival-goers settle down and enjoy a picnic with the accompaniment of lineups, performances and fun. This year, the lineup includes DJ Alle Farben and DJ Lovra.

9. Singapore Cocktail Week

The annual Singapore Cocktail Week is back once again this year, where cocktails and drinks from world-famous bars are made available, and local-international bartenders get together to create a unique cocktail experience.
