Say hello to The Egyptian Bakery, a new halal bakery in Singapore that’s run by—you guessed it—an Egyptian baker. This is Singapore’s only Egyptian-specialty bakery where you can enjoy authentic Middle-Eastern bakes & desserts that you probably won’t find elsewhere in Singapore. Bakes offered here vary every week, with highlights like kunafe cups, manakeesh (flatbread-style pastry), croissants, spinach fatayir (savoury pie), mini cupcakes, macarons and more. On weekends, they’ll also be serving more goodies like kunafe bites and assorted baklava. Some of our favourites from the menu include: Muhammarah Manakeesh ($3.50) Hazelnut Chocolate Croissant ($5.50) Tahini Chocolate Cupcake ($3) Everything is freshly baked in-house in small batches, so goods tend to sell out fast. We arrived bright and early a little after opening, and some of the items were already running low! If you’re stopping by from now till the start of Ramadan, you can also snag a free pistachio kunafe chocolate bite. The Egyptian Bakery Address: 83 Joo Chiat Pl, 01-04, Singapore 427800 Opening Hours: Wednesday-Saturday, 8.30am-4pm Sunday, 8.30am-2.30pm

Zaatar Manakeesh, $3.50

Muhammarah Manakeesh, $3.50

The bakery serves a rotation of different authentic Middle-Eastern treats every week, many of which are pretty unfamiliar to us: aside from their cupcakes, macarons, croissants and kunafe items. We tried some Middle-Eastern bakes like Manakeesh—which are like flatbreads, topped with various savoury spreads. The Muhammarah Manakeesh ($3.50) is our top pick, topped with a herbaceous roasted red pepper spread.

Halloumi Puff, $4

Spinach Fatayir, $4

Hazelnut Chocolate Croissant, $5.50

Other popular handheld snacks include savoury pies like Halloumi Puff ($4), a flaky pastry stuffed with halloumi cheese and caramelised onions; and Spinach Fatayir ($4), a triangular pie stuffed with a spinach filling. We also enjoyed their Zaatar Croissant ($5.50) and Hazelnut Chocolate Croissant ($5.50), which were ultra-light and crispy, fresh from the oven.

Mango Kunafe Cup, $6.60

Pistachio Kunafe Chocolate, $25 for 12pcs

For sweets lovers, you can also get dessert items like Tahini Chocolate Cupcake ($3), Mango Kunafe Cup ($6.60) and Lemon Macaron ($2.50). On weekends, we’re told they’ll be having an even more extensive menu including falafel and popular sweets like assorted baklava and kunafe bites. From now till the start of Ramadan, you can also swing by to try their Pistachio Kunafe Chocolate (UP. $25 for 12pcs) for free.

If you’re interested in trying more authentic Middle-Eastern flavours (that aren’t just the viral Dubai Chocolate), this is one bakery you should definitely hit up. We also appreciate how the bakes here are very affordably priced, with most items under $5. Everything you see here is freshly baked in-house in small batches, so goods tend to sell out fast. The bakery is a solo operation run by the owner, Maha, herself, so bakes are made in very limited quantities. We arrived pretty early a little after opening, and some of the items were already running low. Our tip: come early (they open at 8.30am), or make a pre-order via +65 8624 0492 to secure your goods.
