ART/ST Records is known as Singapore’s only bespoke lathe-cut studio; it started as a cosy home-based business in Katong, and now they’ve finally opened a physical space in town where vinyl lovers can hang out, listen to music, and even create their own custom records to take home. The new ART/ST Records space is located at *SCAPE, and they specialise in one-of-a-kind custom records that you can personalise with your own audio recordings or voice memos, and turn them into actual playable records that you can then mail to anywhere in the world in a unique “postcard” form.
Whether it’s to immortalise the voice/laughter of a loved one, or to send a heartfelt message—these custom Post-a-Records are designed to turn your digital files into physical, tangible keepsakes that you can treasure for a long time. Each Post-a-Record keepsake is priced at $30 each, including free worldwide shipping to any one address. There are also 6 different in-house, hand-drawn postcard designs that you can choose from, called the ‘Kao Peh’ series: featuring familiar tongue-in-cheek Singaporean sayings. The steps to create your own Post-a-Record is simple:
- Pick your postcard design
- Send your personal audio track (max. 2 minutes)
- Pen down your address and message
- Wait for your postcard to be delivered directly
If you’d like to take it a step further and personalise your “postcard” record with your own photograph or even get hands-on and create it yourself, you can join one of their Group Workshop sessions (from $100 per person). During the workshop session, you can assemble your own Post-a-Record from scratch and watch them being lathe-cut live in-person. If you’d like to be even more hands-on and get behind the lathe-cut machine yourself to cut the record, you can upgrade to their VIP Experience ($150 per person). The Group Workshops are held on Fridays and Saturdays, 2pm to 3.30pm and 6pm to 7.30pm.
Regardless of if you’re coming in for a custom workshop or not, ART/ST Records’ new studio space is meant to be an all-inclusive space for anyone who’s curious about records and vinyl enthusiasts alike. The studio has a chill and vibey lounge area where you can just pop in to say hi, or stay to browse and listen to the vinyl records they have in-store for free.
