Here’s a new home-based spot for your shio pan fix, and you’ll never guess where it’s located: within the a teeny tiny bungalow house in Singapore! Kohpan Japanese Bakery is a new shio pan specialty home-based café located just a minute’s walk away from Springleaf MRT Station.
@shout.sg Shio pans from Singapore’s “smallest bungalow”? Yes, really. Nestled within a tiny landed house, this new home-based bakery offers freshly baked shio pan from just $3.90. Founder Koh Pan began crafting his own after feeling that most versions on the market resembled butter rolls more than true shio pan. Would you make a visit to try the difference for yourself? 📍 Kohpan — 13A Thong Soon Ave, Singapore 787448 🕒 Monday, Thursday–Sunday: 11am–5pm

Kohpan is run by a sibling duo, Gerald and Ronda, and operates out of a teeny tiny standalone landed house along Thong Soon Avenue—said to be one of the smallest bungalow houses in Singapore. You can’t miss them: with a giant shio pan-shaped inflatable display at the entrance to welcome you in.

Original, $3.90/piece

Shio pans are baked fresh daily in-house in very limited batches, with their classic plain flavours starting at $3.90 each. They’ve got just 3 flavours on the menu for now: Original ($3.90/piece), Fukuoka Mentaiko ($14.90/3 pieces) and Premium Truffle ($19.90/3 pieces). For the purists, we’d recommend their Original shio pans, which we love for the crispy bottomed crust that’s a hallmark for any good shio pan bread. Fresh out of the oven, the shio pan has a fantastic crunch, with a good bite while still maintaining its lightness and fluffy texture. The shio pans are also lightly sprinkled with a dusting of French sea salt, and we especially appreciated how they’re significantly less oily compared to some other shio pans in the market.

Premium Truffle, $19.90/3 pieces
Mentaiko fans will be glad to know that their Fukuoka mentaiko sauce is freshly homemade in-house; you get a generous topping of the sauce on each shio pan bread before the sauce gets torched for a little extra smokiness. The truffle flavour is also super aromatic—they really don’t skimp on the ingredients here.

What makes Kohpan special is their commitment to using quality ingredients: from French flour, Lescure French butter and Fleur de Sel French sea salt. Their shio pan dough also undergoes a slow fermentation process and is proofed overnight for the best taste and texture. Their shio pans are available as single pieces (from $3.90), as a trio of 3 pieces (from $14.90) or in a mixed box set of 6 ($29.90). Aside from shio pan, they’ve also got barista-style drinks (from $4) including Americano, Latte, Cappuccino and more. There’s also limited dine-in seating available within Kohpan’s property if you want to enjoy your bakes and drinks fresh on the spot.

If you’re looking to get your hands on Kohpan’s shio pans, we recommend making a pre-order online here to secure your goods. Walk-ins are also welcomed, but be warned that they tend to sell out pretty early even before their 5pm closing time. If you’re in the area and want to walk-in, we suggest swinging by early in the afternoon at around 12pm to snag some before they’re all sold out.
