This Condo in Singapore has a TCM-inspired Bar & Cabinet Wall That Hides a “Secret” Room!

It’s not uncommon to see home bars in Singaporean homes, but this particular condo owner in Singapore might’ve taken the idea of a “home bar” to a whole ‘nother level. “Chinoiserie chic” is the theme for this 2-bedroom condo, which took $300K SGD to renovate.

The home owners turned their kitchen into a fully-fledged and functional bar area with a modern European-Chinese style—and the space is the perfect place for hosting, or as a conversation starter. The bar area has a 4-metre island table constructed from dekton stone, for a luxurious and sophisticated vibe that complements the rest of the house’s black and gold-esque colour palette. One highlight of the home bar is definitely the functional TCM medicine cabinet feature wall behind the bar counter: some of the individual drawers can also be opened, and sports alcohol brands instead of medicine labels.

They’ve even included an old school Chinese signboard that reads “醉在聖靈裡”, and translates to “Drunk in the Holy Spirit” in English—very tongue in cheek. Fun fact: the owners’ parents also used to run a traditional Chinese medicine store as well, so the design definitely feels like a full-circle moment. The fun doesn’t end there: the TCM feature wall even has a hidden door that conceals a “secret” room in the house, their second kitchen and laundry area.
