Open Sesame Treasure of Health Café is a new playful café slash vintage boutique and retail store. The dining space itself is decorated with lush florals and fair lights from the ceiling, and makes you feel like you’ve stepped into the dreamy and whimsical world of Wonderland. The café’s menu is very extensive, with a focus on more healthy offerings: dishes filled with natural ingredients and fresh vegetables and health-boosting ingredients like pine pollen.

Crispy Salmon with Basil Pesto Cream, $28.90

Peranakan Fusion Laksa Pasta, $28.90

Citrus Blossom Salad, $12.90

Some of our favourites include the Crispy Salmon with Basil Pesto Cream ($28.90) and the Peranakan Fusion Laksa Pasta ($28.90). The Crispy Salmon came with a hefty fillet of crispy seared salmon, along with a bed of creamy mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. The Laksa Pasta is also chock-full of prawns, tossed in a spicy and piquant laksa sauce. Across the board, the portion sizes here are incredibly generous, nearly double of what you’ll normally get at other cafés—each main can probably be shared among two.

Truffle Thunder Fries, $14.90

Sakura Matcha Bobo Tofu, $9.90

Iceing Flavour Jelly, $8.90

Don’t sleep on their signature Truffle Thunder Fries ($14.90) either, they’re fried in a unique ultra-crispy batter that stays crispy and doesn’t turn soggy even after being left out. They’ve also got various jelly desserts that are lightly sweetened, like the Sakura Matcha Bobo Tofu ($9.90) and Iceing Flavour Jelly ($8.90). The Iceing Flavour Jelly swirled with a blueberry compote sauce wasn’t our favourite, but matcha lovers will enjoy the tau huey-like Matcha Tofu dessert.

Aside from dining at the café, you’ll find that the space is like a treasure trove of hidden gems, with items lining nearly every spare inch and from the floor to the ceiling. There’s over a whopping 10,000 items on display, and everything you see is for sale, starting from just $1 each. They’ve got a variety of items available to shop, including: party goods, themed candy, collectible toys, figurines, jewellery and more.

But the highlight of their retail store is definitely their vintage porcelain ware selection of tea sets, dishware and decor. There’s a mix of both pre-loved and new items, and we’re told that most of them are sourced from the 1938s, and there’s only one piece of each design. If you love antique or vintage-style porcelainware, you’ll love the selection here, with plenty of designs that are gold-gilded, floral and one-of-a-kind pieces you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Prices for porcelain items start from as low as $4.90, with most of them ranging around $20 to $50.

You’ll also be able to find a couple of luxury dishware and tea sets, including:

Chanel ($325)

Dior ($325)

Hermès ($288)

Aynsley ($688)

Meissen ($2800)

Open Sesame Treasure of Health Café is a standalone café that’s located within walking distance from Marymount MRT, a couple bus stops away from the buzzy Upper Thomson stretch. If you’re looking for a more underrated spot that’s away from the crowd, this is a spot you can consider. The food is also pretty decent, and certainly quite value-for-money.
