EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR TRIP TO THAILAND

1. Designated flights between Singapore and Thailand

Once the VTL between Singapore and Thailand launches on 14th December 2021, you’ll be able to book flights between the two countries via one of the 10 weekly flights operated by Singapore Airlines (SIA). While Singaporeans have already been enjoying quarantine-free travel with Thailand since 1st November 2021, you’ll have to book a VTL return flight to Singapore from Thailand in order to skip having to quarantine back in Singapore.

VTL flights by SIA from Thailand are as follows:

  • SQ705 Bangkok to Singapore (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, 9.50am-1.15pm)
  • SQ707 Bangkok to Singapore (12.15pm-3.45pm daily)
  • SQ727 Phuket to Singapore (11.40am-2.45pm daily)

Book your SIA flights between Singapore and Thailand here.

2. Ensure VTL and Test & Go Scheme Eligibility

Before you even book your trip to Thailand, make sure you are eligible to travel via the VTL! Ensure that you:

  • Have not had any travel history to any other country outside of Singapore and/or any of the eligible countries listed here within the past 21 days
  • Are fully vaccinated with one of the vaccines approved by Thailand; see the full list of approved vaccines here

Unvaccinated children under 12 years of age are permitted to travel via VTL as long as they are accompanied by a fully vaccinated person aged 18 or older.

3. Pre-departure Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Test in Singapore

72 hours prior to your departure to Thailand, you’ll need to take a PCR Test in Singapore at any of the clinics listed here.

4. Travel Insurance

In order to travel via VTL, you’ll need to ensure you have sufficient travel insurance coverage (at least USD$50,000) for COVID-19 related medical/treatment expenses and hospitalisation costs.

5. Digital Proof of Vaccination

You’ll need to get your vaccination certificate digitally endorsed as proof that you are fully vaccinated. The digital vaccination certificate must also have a valid QR code for verification purposes. You can get your digital vaccination certificates on HealthCerts; and get them digitally authenticated and endorsed via Notarise. Important note: your existing vaccination status on Trace Together will not suffice as proof of vaccination for travel.

6. Book Test & Go Hotel and Reverse Transcription PCR (RT-PCR) Test Package

As part of the Test & Go Scheme, you’ll need to book your first night’s stay in Thailand at one of the Safety & Health Administration (SHA)-approved hotels while waiting for your on-arrival RT-PCR test results. You can book any SHA Extra+ Hotels or Alternative Quarantine Hotels across Thailand, including Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai.

Make sure to also check that your Test & Go Package includes the on-arrival RT-PCR Test! Once you’ve taken the on-arrival RT-PCR Test, you’ll need to isolate yourself in your hotel room until you get a negative result within 24 hours. After you’ve gotten a negative result, you may proceed to check out to another hotel of your choosing or continue your travels to any other domestic destinations.

7. Apply for Thailand Pass – Test & Go Scheme

Singaporeans don’t need a visa to enter Thailand, but they will be required to apply for the Thailand Pass – Test & Go Scheme here in order to qualify for quarantine-free travel (application for the scheme is free of charge).

To apply, you’ll need a soft copy (preferably in JPG format) of the following documents:

  • Passport
  • Digital vaccination certificate with visible QR code
  • COVID-19 travel insurance policy with insured sum clearly stated
  • Confirmed SHA Extra+ or Alternative Quarantine Hotel and RT-PCR Test bookings with check-in date clearly stated
  • Flight booking

Submit your registration at least 7 days before your intended date of departure. Each traveller (aged 12 and above) is required to submit their own Thailand Pass application. For more information on the Thailand Pass, see here or here.

8. On-arrival RT-PCR Test in Thailand

Once you’ve landed in Thailand, present the Thailand Pass QR code to the Health Control at the airport for checks, then proceed with immigration procedures. Afterwards, proceed to your pre-booked Test & Go SHA Extra+ Hotel or nearby test centre to take your on-arrival RT-PCR Test. Transportation via airport transfer to the test location will be provided as part of the SHA Extra+ package.

9. MorChana App

Thailand has their own version of Trace Together for contact tracing called MorChana, which you’ll need to download for the duration of your trip. The MorChana app is available for download for both iOS and Android devices.

10. Pre-departure Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)/Antigen Rapid Test (ART) Test

At least 48 hours before your flight back to Singapore, you have to take a PCR Test or professionally-administered ART Test at one of the designated clinics across Thailand. You can book your pre-departure ART test via Klook here.
