Hotpot lovers—especially of the spicy, numbing kind—are in for a treat: China’s famous Chongqing-style hotpot chain, Zhu Guang Yu Hotpot has just opened its first outlet in JB. The new outlet is located just ~10 minutes away from the checkpoint, and they also open till 2am daily.

The hotpot chain boasts over 300 outlets across China and Asia, with their signature bold and vibrant retro 80s-inspired decor. They specialise in authentic fiery mala flavours, especially their premium chilli oil and beef tallow broth; along with non-spicy options like pumpkin milk and pork bone. They’re also known for their premium meat platters and hotpot dishes like Peppercorn Beef Tongue, 8-Second Crab Stick Threads, Lobster Meat Paste, Fish Tofu Pudding and more. But one of their most viral must-try items is the Giant Sesame Ball that’s freshly made to order, and apparently only has 30 servings available daily.

They’re also known for their unique specialty desserts and vegetable-infused drinks; like their rainbow-hued tangyuan desserts that’s loaded to the brim with toppings, and a kale drink that’s topped with actual raw kale leaves. Another dessert you can try is their Sunny Pasteurized Egg Fluffy Milk Ice, a dessert made with soufflé-like milk ice and topped with a raw pasteurised egg yolk.
