JAPANESE RESTAURANT WHERE YOU WAIT FOR RICE TO BE COOKED AT THE TABLE

Good things come to those who wait—that’s the motto at Hanare by Takayama, an up-and-coming kamameshi specialist restaurant helmed by famed Japanese chef Taro Takayama.

Hanare opens its doors on 8th December 2021, featuring a calming Japanese-inspired interior decked in warm wood tones from floor to ceiling.

Kamameshi refers to the traditional Japanese dish: rice and toppings cooked in an iron pot. The kamameshi is served in the kama pot with a wooden lid. To enjoy this dish to the fullest, you’re required to wait patiently for about 18 minutes while the rice cooks in the pot. Only once the fire is extinguished can you open the lid to dig in.

Hanare offers lunch sets like the Unagi Set ($52), Salmon Ikura Set, Wagyu Set ($58) and more, as well as à la carte items for dinner. What can you do while waiting for the rice to cook, you ask? Feel free to start munching on the sides provided along with the set, such as assorted sashimi, Japanese vegetables and more!
