From the streets of Korea to Singapore comes the famed Obongzip, a popular restaurant chain with over 300 outlets all over Korea, Japan and Australia—and they’ve just opened their very first outlet at Tanjong Pagar. The restaurant specialises in fire-grilled dishes like seafood and meats, all served on traditional old old-school style metal trays.

Fire-Grilled Spicy Octopus, $55 for 2 persons

One of their must-try dishes is their viral fire-grilled spicy octopus, which you can customize to your preference with 3 different spice levels: Mild, Hot and Extra Hot. The octopus is served whole, so you’ll have to use the scissors provided to cut them into bite-sized pieces according to your liking. The octopus they use here is imported directly from Korea, so you’ll be getting an authentic taste of the iconic dish without needing a plane ticket.

Makguksu

Pork Belly Bossam
You can get the Fire-Grilled Spicy Octopus ($55 for 2 persons) on its own, or as part of their signature Obongzip Special ($108), that comes 3 of their signature dishes: the Fire-Grilled Spicy Octopus, Pork Belly Bossam and Makguksu (spicy mixed buckwheat noodles). The set also comes with a generous portion of hearty seaweed soup and an assortment of various refillable side dishes. For the bossam, you’re recommended to use the lettuce to make veggie wraps with the pork slices, homemade fresh kimchi and sauces.

Seaweed Flake Rice, $4

If you’re getting their popular octopus dish, make sure to save some of the octopus and sauce and order their Seaweed Flake Rice ($4) to make your own spicy bibimbap—the perfect Korean “dessert” to end the meal. Obongzip is located at the same restaurant space that was previously occupied by O.BBa Jjajang, who has shifted to the second level instead.
