[SHOUT REVIEWS] THIS HALAL CAFÉ UNDER A HDB HAS MELTY SWISS RACLETTE CHEESE STEAKS, CROISSANTS, BURGERS AND MORE!

You’re familiar with raclette cheese on potatoes and fries, but have you ever had raclette cheese on steaks, croissants, burgers and chicken cutlets? Flavour Flings Café is a hidden gem in Hougang under a HDB block, with freshly torched raclette cheese menu items like steak, croissant, burgers and more!

Their Swiss Raclette Cheese menu is a hot favourite among customers, and for good reason: with an extra $5 for the raclette cheese add-on, the entire cheese wheel is brought to your table and torched before your very eyes, before being doled atop your chosen menu item.

Beef Steak with Swiss Raclette Cheese, $31

Our favourite out of all the raclette cheese items has undeniably their Beef Steak ($31): cooked to a perfectly tender medium, the juicy tenderloin steak is tasty enough on its own, but taken up a notch with the addition of the oozy and melty cheese. If you can only pick one menu item for the raclette cheese add-on, this is the one we’d recommend.

Salted Egg Yolk Croissant with Swiss Raclette Cheese, $11.90

Ultimate cheese lovers can go for their Cheeseburger Classic with raclette cheese ($23) for some extra melty cheese-on-cheese action. Or if you like salted egg, you can try their Salted Egg Yolk Croissant with raclette cheese ($11.90), made with a oozy salted egg yolk centre that bursts and flows out once you cut into it, though be warned that the salted egg flavour is quite subtle, and won’t be as prominent especially with the addition of raclette cheese.

Our only gripe with the raclette cheese series is that the cheese hardens very fast, especially in the air-conditioned café space. So if you’re going to order a raclette cheese item from the menu, don’t take too long snapping pictures for the ‘gram, and dig in ASAP to enjoy the melty cheese at its optimum stretchiness!

Mentaiko Fries (Special Menu), $12; IG: @yongweikai

Flavour Flings is halal-certified, and serves other decadent items at pocket-friendly prices, like the Crab & Lobster Roll ($29), which comes in a massive brioche bun that’s toasted with a crispy golden-brown crust, and stuffed full of lobster tail and crab chunks! While we wished that the lobster and crab meat were slightly warmer in temperature and more tender instead of leaning towards the cold and dry side, for the price point and the portion size—we can’t complain.

Other items to look forward to include their off-menu Mentaiko Fries ($12), Bangers & Truffle Mash ($18), Crab Croissant Roll ($22), Brunch Burger ($18), Chilli Crab Pasta ($19) and more, along with a selection of desserts and bakes from their display.
