If you’re an ardent lover of cheesecake, you need to visit The Cheese Lab in JB. Located in up-and-coming cafe haven Mount Austin, The Cheese Lab specialises in not just regular cheesecake but pillowy-soft, half-burnt cheesecake.
Since its opening in the first quarter this year, this pastel-coloured cafe has expanded its menu from just the Original flavour to eight yummy flavours, including Creme Brulee, Charcoal and Blueberry.
Their cakes are known to have three different sections — the top part is overbaked to a crisp brown; the middle is fully baked; and the tip is half baked, which explains its moistness.
All cakes are served with a generous portion of cream cheese. Despite the light texture of the cakes, we were surprised at how rich the flavours are. If you’re a cheesecake purist or just new to cheesecakes in general, we recommend sticking to the Original flavour. The Charcoal flavour did not have the smoky taste we were looking for, but is still a sweet and great alternative.
If you’re a sucker for sweet things, try Blueberry as we felt that Blueberry was the sweetest among all that we tried.
For something different, try the store’s signature Creme Brulee Cheesecake.
For this, the cake is topped with icing sugar and then torched to achieve a sexy burnt effect. The result is a satisfying combination of hot and cold into one. Opt for this instead of Charcoal if you’re looking for a subtle smokey taste.
Apart from cakes, the cafe sells homemade drinks too. Choose from sodas, smoothies and milkshakes!
