Things To Do This Weekend (31 March – 2 April 2017)

This weekend is filled with renowned international acts flying down to our shores – think Coldplay, Corrine Bailey Rae, and Armin van Buuren. If the music scene is not for you, take part in the historical tour of the iconic Raffles Hotel, or explore the issues of gentrification in a photo exhibit on the soon-to-be redeveloped neighbourhood of Bidadari.
1. Singapore International Jazz Festival

Girl (or dude), put your records on because this year’s SingJazz is hosting a variety of internationally acclaimed acts like Corrine Bailey Rae, Esperanza Spalding, Gilles Peterson and many more. Look out for this year’s “The Late Show”, featuring a line-up of artists and DJs like Incognito, Basement Jaxx and Rudimental, where you can party along to the jazzy tunes throughout the night.

2. Coldplay

8 years after their previous sold out concert here, Coldplay is back again. In case you forgot about the mad rush for their tickets back in November, the British rock band announced a second show date. Although their tickets are completely sold out, fans can try getting resale tickets on Facebook, or Carousell.

3. Bidadari and Beyond

This photo exhibition explores the Bidadari neighbourhood’s journey as it transitions from a quiet neighbourhood into a bustling residential hub. The estate, which used to house a cemetery, stretches over smaller neighbourhood clusters, and will be forced to embrace new developments, as 10,000 new living units are to be built, including a community mall and a 10-hectare park

For its 130th anniversary, the iconic Raffles Hotel is inviting you to take a tour of its grounds to learn about its rich history. Famous celebrities have graced the hotel, including Liz Taylor, Charlie Chaplin and Somerset Maugham, when it used to be a very popular British colonial bolt-hole back in the days. The tour is $20 per head, and you can get tickets at the hotel’s gift shop, restaurants or bars. It runs every first Saturday from February to August this year, three times each day (10AM, 2PM and 5PM).

5. Soul Movie Nite

Celebrate and remember the life of one of the most troubled British artists, Amy Winehouse. Known for her deep expressive vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, R&B, and jazz, the songstress died of alcohol poisoning in July 2011. The Projector is collaborating with Soul Island Singapura and INTERMISSION BAR to showcase a docu-film on her life, and toast to her in the afterparty at the foyer bar.
