Performing magic tricks to “earn” your dinner? The famous magic-themed dining experience, The Magic Table, has just made its debut in Singapore, and it might just be the most magical dinner you’ll have.
@shout.sg There’s a new magic-themed immersive dining experience in Singapore that lets you “perform” magic tricks and illusions while you savour a 5-course dinner! 5D Magic Table Dining Address: Andaz Singapore

Immersive dining experiences aren’t new in Singapore, with similar theatrical dining experiences featuring projections like Le Petit Chef and The Banquet of Hoshena. But what makes The Magic Table different from other immersive dining experiences, is that it’s actually pretty interactive and hands-on—you’re literally tasked with performing the magic tricks and illusions yourself before each course is served. The dinner itself (and the tricks) are also conceptualised by renowned magician duo, Thommy Ten and Amélie van Tass, collectively known as The Clairvoyants. With both America’s Got Talent and Las Vegas fame to their name, you know the magic’s got to be legit.

Not to spoil any of the fun, but some of the interesting things we were asked to do included following along with mini games, waving our hands over the table, tearing up cards during a card trick and unlocking a “secret” box using clues. If you think this would be your usual easy and “laid-back” dinner, you’d be wrong—there’s quite a bit of concentration required to follow along the storyline and narration, especially while performing the tricks, because it is possible to fail at them. But not to worry, even if you didn’t manage to perform the trick correctly, you’ll still be served your dinner course accordingly.

The Royal Tartare

The Crystal Ball

Houdini’s Escape
We tried The Wizard’s Essentials Menu ($158.80++ per person), which had a total of 5 courses, or “acts”. We don’t usually have high expectations when it comes to the food served at such immersive dining experiences, as the focus is usually on the visuals and not the food; but the dishes served in the 5-course menu were actually pretty good. The plating and presentation for the dishes were quite elegant, like an avocado rose tuna tartare and a gold-dusted foie gras tart served atop a “crystal ball”.

The Magician’s Circle

The Final Illusion
For the main course, we were served an 18-hour slow cooked Black Angus beef short rib with seared King scallops, which were quite restaurant-quality if you ask us. We ended with a smash dessert; served in a chocolate ball which we had to crack open with a wooden hammer for a final flourish and surprise to end the experience. Throughout the course, you’ll also be kept entertained by even more digital projections while you dine.

If you’re willing to put in a little work for your dinner, and you’re down for a fun and interactive time, The Magic Table is definitely a great option to consider. Aside from the amazing digital visuals, this is one immersive dining experience that really engages all your senses and truly feels interactive. We were initially skeptical on how they were going to incorporate that “magical” element, but we were left pleasantly surprised at how some of the magic tricks actually worked, and it felt like real magic had taken place before our eyes. There’s even “costumes” you can put on to get you even more immersed in the magical experience, like magician’s hats, wands, and capes too. You can find The Magic Table at Andaz Singapore for a limited time only (at least 6 months from now, with no end date specified), and to book your spot at the table, see here.
