We're Seeing Stars Over These Gorgeous Galaxy Donuts

The next big food trend has hit our shores – and this time it’s out of this world. Enter galaxy donuts, all your childhood dreams rolled into one sinful, mesmerising, piece of confectionery art. Before you get all starry-eyed, we found a place right here in Singapore where you can get your very own edible nebula.

The Lab Sg, situated in the Arab Street area, is aptly named after its experimentalist philosophy. Lady boss Rohaizan and her husband Luqman are always on the lookout for new food ideas to experiment with. And their hearts were set on recreating their very own galaxy donuts, after seeing it pop up in the Melbourne food scene.

Don’t dismiss the hard work behind these smallish cosmic creations. Each batch of donuts takes 5 hours to prepare – from dough mixing to glazing. The secret to marbled perfection lies not in the icing but in the crispy texture of the donut – the icing doesn’t smear as beautifully if they’re too soft. These confections are crispier than your regular chewy donut, with a crumbly cake-like texture. Although the taste pales in comparison to how it looks, these make stellar bite-sized party treats and your guests will be spacing out just looking at them.

They’re almost too pretty to eat and we know you want some for your Instagram feed. They’re a little pricey at $3 a pop – but think of all those hours spent making them and the meteoric rise of your Instagram likes. Expect to wait at least 20 min for your donuts if you walk in. Or call in to place an order at least an hour ahead if you’re ordering in bulk. You can even customise the colour scheme!
Each batch is hand-crafted so book early to avoid disappointment – or there’ll be no constellation prize (badum-tsss).
