The new buzzword in Fashion – Athleisure, Sportswear Fit For The Streets

Step out in your gym-gear. Athleisure the new buzz word in today’s fashion scene, marriages your workout and chill-out threads. Elevated sportswear never looked so good, with the crop of activewear brands working to produce apparel that would look as good in the locker room, as at brunch with your friends. Here are some brands that strike the perfect balance between form and function, and being effortlessly cool.
1. Kith Women

Windbreaker, $180
Sports bra, $80
Jogger, $140

Cropped windbreaker, $165
Skirt, $140

Cropped crewneck, $125
Skirt, $140

Kith recently released its first ever activewear collection – a sports set and a more relaxed range, Chapter 4 that focuses on comfort and style. Expect retro colorblocked cropped crewnecks and windbreakers, scuba dresses, joggers and skirts, keeping with Kith’s streetwear aesthetic. Their sports range features sports essentials like bras and leggings in an understated cut, as well as slouchy tees and mesh tops for layering.

2. Ivy Park

Oversized denim jogger, $229

Ribbed leggings, $106

Satin jacket, $139

Beyoncé and Topshop’s collaborative activewear label, Ivy Park, is now in its second season. Just in time for fall, this collection plays largely on a muted colour palette of burgundy and navy. The collection also plays on unusual fabric for a sportswear range, like denim, to dress up the everyday jogger and one-piece jumpsuit. Its range of leggings, sports bras, one-piece suits and tank tops make the prospect of working out to Formation so appealing. If Queen Bey says yes, who are we to say no?

3. Alo

Bra, $86

Legging, $163

Top, $92

Clean lines and classic cuts with textured accents are the highlight of Alo’s fall collection, featuring a light colour palette of oranges, greens, and our favourite blush pink and periwinkle blue combination. Their understated, classic style with a pop of fun is what makes it one of Kendall Jenner’s favourite brands, as it makes transitioning from the gym to the streets so easy.

4. Outdoor Voices

Tri-tone slashback crop, $60

Two-tone leggings, $95

For the uninitiated, Outdoor Voices was poised to be the main rival of Lululemon, the brand that took the athleisure world by storm. CEO Tyler Haney started the brand in 2013 with the everyday ‘recreational’ athlete in mind, and focuses on using high quality fabrics that can perform multiple functions. Marrying form and femininity, Outdoor Voices’ latest collection features perfectly colourblocked sportswear in a palette of chic blues, purples and greys.

The embodiment of Parisian chic, A.P.C. was a clear collaborator with Outdoor Voices considering their shared sense in minimalistic, timeless style. A.P.C.O.V. was touted as “a capsule collection where the sports world meets the urban”, and no love is lost on both ends as quality stretch crepe is used to create the apparels that look straight out of A.P.C.’s lookbook.

Men and Women’s collection available.

5. The Upside

Garda shorts, $169

Lanakai Pant, $139

Runner jacket, $199

If the monochromatic looks of the current sportswear available isn’t for you, The Upside is heavy on its use of intricate, beautiful prints. Its latest collection draws inspiration from Hawaii, taking particular interest in the Japanese influences in Oahu. One of the most visually exciting collections yet, The Upside looks to meld quality fashion, with pieces you would not shy away from wearing on an everyday basis.
