It’s the new year, and with new beginnings come new sights, sounds and experiences. From art festivals to space exploration and album launch gigs, set the tone for 2017 with these eye opening events happening this weekend.
1. Singapore Fringe Festival: Art & Skin

A timely reminder of how we are all intrinsically the same beneath it all, the 2017 edition of Singapore Fringe Fest returns with the intimate theme “Art & Skin”. One can expect a host of theatrical and visual art works, each interpreting the theme in their own unique way. Highlights include Worklight Theatre’s multi-award winning Labels, an exploration of mixed heritage and racism, and Ming Poon’s Undressing Room, which as it’s name suggests involves quite a bit of…undressing.

2. Art Apart Fair 9th Edition @ Pan Pacific Orchard

Setting base at a different hotel each year, the 9th edition of Art Apart Fair is set to take place at Pan Pacific Orchard this 2017 with the theme “The Art Matrix”. Bringing together Contemporary Art and Architectural Installation of found objects, one can expect to see a diverse cultural display of artistic expression at this year’s boutique art exhibition.  Do keep an eye out for works by homegrown artists, HooCheong Fong and Ben Puah.

3. NASA – A Human Adventure

Kickstart the new year by embarking on a journey into the world of space exploration, at the largest Singapore space exhibition yet. NASA – A Human Adventure showcases the inspiring progression and achievements by NASA in space exploration and technology. The exhibition will take you through five galleries: Dreamers, Go Fever, Pioneers, Endurance and Innovation, and top off the out of this world experience with the G-Force – Astronaut Trainer Ride that takes you through the famous Mercury Liberty Bell 7 flight.

4. Studio Ghibli Artworks at Polar Bear Gallery

Calling all Studio Ghibli fans. Indulge your Hayao Miyazaki obsession with this permanent display his film’s original celluloids at the Polar Bear Gallery. Expect to see favourite Studio Ghibli scenes from My Neighbour Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Ponyo.

5. Syndicate Presents: Intriguant – Recluse Album Launch

You might have seen and heard snippets of his album at Laneway Festival and Singapore International Jazz Festival. Now our very own local electronic producer, Intriguant, is finally ready to present Recluse in this album launch gig. Backed by a three-piece band, the live showcase will also see guest vocalists of the who’s who in Singapore’s music scene; Charlie Lim, Timothy De Cotta and Ginny Bloop.

6. Linus Hablot

Making his first live performance at the Esplanade Concourse this Saturday, Singapore-based singer-songwriter Linus Hablot is set to dazzle crowds with his unique blend of neo-soul, blues and indie folk tunes. Taking musical inspiration from the likes of Bon Iver, Nick Hakim and Lianne La Havas, the budding musician recently released his debut four-track EP Coming Down last August. Gig-goers can expect two different 30-minute sets from 6.45 – 7.15pm and 7.30 – 8.00pm, so stick around to experience the full spectrum of what the 19-year-old stage swooner has to offer.
