Cake lovers might be familiar with Just Cakes Studio, a popular home-based business specialising in custom fresh fruit cakes inspired by Taiwanese or Korean-style bakeries. If you’re already a fan of their cakes, you’ll want to swing by their new café, Halo Café, where you can have their popular fresh fruit cakes on the spot!

Halo Café has a cosy cottagecore and vintage-inspired vibe, and their desserts are freshly handcrafted in-house daily. If you could only get 1 thing from their menu, definitely go for one of their signature mini cakes (from $9.90), especially their fresh fruit series. These cakes are a miniature single-serving version of their original full-sized cakes, and are generously topped with light, low sugar cream, premium fruits and other toppings.

Guava Brûlée, $13.80

Coffee Latte Mini Cake, $13.80

Taro Mango Cake, $12.80

Blueberry, $13.80
Our favourite flavour has got to be the Guava Brûlée ($13.80), that’s topped with perfectly ripe pink guava chunks and shine muscat grapes which made the cake light and refreshing. The Coffee Latte Mini Cake ($13.80) was a close second, with a strong coffee aroma throughout the cake layers and a very subtle but not off-putting coconut scent. The cake is also topped with a tiny edible coconut-shaped chocolate. The Taro Mango Cake ($12.80) is also a popular one, made with fragrant and rich taro paste that’s made in-house.

Their mini cakes are made with pure dairy cream and minimally sweet, which make them a healthy and guilt-free yet indulgent treat. Aside from the mini cakes, you can also try their basque cheesecakes, with flavours like Pistachio Strawberry Basque ($12.80) or Original Basque ($6.50), Jellycat-inspired mochi balls, teacup tiramisu and more. They’ve also got a good drink selection starting from $5, with specialty drink options like Strawberry Matcha Milk ($8), Lemon Black Tea Yogurt ($7), Green Grape Jasmine Latte ($8.50) and more. Personally, we wouldn’t recommend getting their matcha drink, especially if you’re a matcha lover who likes intense and deep matchas—their matcha is quite light.

Halo Café is located at NEWest in Clementi, which might be quite out of the way for some. The cakes were delicious, and we would definitely consider stopping by again if we’re in the area, but we probably wouldn’t make the trip down just for them. Also, if you’re thinking of heading down, you might want to do so a little later in the day, from around 12pm onwards. As their cakes are handcrafted one by one daily, they might not be ready to serve early in the morning, so come in the afternoon for a larger selection of items.
