Is this a grocery store or a café? We found what’s probably the most vibey “grocery store” in Singapore, and it’s actually a sandwich café pop-up too! Don’t Runaway Grocer is a new retro grocery store-inspired pop-up joint in Joo Chiat, where you can get sandwiches, bagels and even shop for limited-edition lifestyle items.
The space is really fun and quirky, with a retro theme and items displayed like an actual grocery store: faux fruit-shaped candles wrapped in mesh packaging and styrofoam boxes, supermarket-style shopping baskets to place your items in, and blue and white checkered flooring.
On the (edible) menu are a line-up of sandwiches on rotation: like Cacio e Pepe Grilled Cheese ($15) and Turkey Cranberry Melt ($16). You can also get chunky bagels (from $5.50) in flavours like Scallion Cream Cheese, NYC Cheesecake Cream Cheese and Shiokonbu & Chive Cream Cheese. Coming December 2025, they’ll also be launching a series of brand new menu drops in collaboration with popular F&B names in Singapore.
While you’re there, browse some of the lifestyle items they have on display, from collectible merchandise goods to local items from homegrown brands. Prices start from $2.50 each, with a selection of snacks, tote bags, candles, chocolate bars, condiments and more. Some of the items you can buy include:
