Playing badminton with an actual frying pan? This new badminton net slash public artwork in Singapore lets you play badminton with literally any racket or object you want, and it’s free for all to access till 20th February 2026.

The public installation is called Bring Your Own Racket (BYOR), and it’s a sculptural artwork that’s part of Singapore Art Week. The artwork itself is eye-catching, it reinvents the familiar straight badminton net into something more experimental: with its bold red colour, curved lines and varying heights. But it’s not just a visual spectacle, it’s fully functional and playable as well. True to its name, visitors are free to come and experience the artwork hands-on and play using literally any kind of object as a racket.

The BYOR activation invites you to reimagine play, and encourages creativity by using everyday objects as rackets or even improvising to DIY your own. Some of the fun “racket” variations we’ve seen include actual flying pans, fly swatters, broom pans and sticks—pretty much anything goes. Even if you don’t have a racket, there will be various racket options available on-site that you can borrow and use to play.

The BYOR feature is located at Discover Tanjong Pagar Green; and free for all to play from now till 20th February 2026—no booking required, just show up and play away. On 31st January 2026, the artists themselves, Aaron Lim and Quek Jia Qi, will be present at the activation to join in the fun too.
