First-Time Singapore Visitor on Job Interview Trip Realises Her Hotel Is in a Red-Light District

A first-time visitor to Singapore who travelled to the city for a job interview shared an unexpected experience after realising her accommodation was located in Geylang, an area known as a red-light district.

During her short two-day stay for a second-round interview, she casually mentioned in a video that her icebreaker line had been, “Yeah, I’m staying in Geylang,” which quickly drew attention due to the area’s reputation.

She later shared that she had not done extensive research before booking her stay, opting instead for the cheapest available option when selecting accommodation.

In the comments, she confirmed she was staying at Hotel 81, a budget hotel chain with multiple properties in the area.

She also recounted experiencing catcalling during her stay, adding to what was already an unfamiliar introduction to the city.

Despite the surprises, she ended her video on a light-hearted note, encouraging viewers to do proper research before travelling and choosing accommodation, especially when visiting a new country for the first time.
