Banana bread, brownie or canelé? How about a mash-up of all three desserts? That’s exactly what makes a Banelé: a novel dessert creation that has the flavour of a banana bread, texture of a brownie and crust of a canelé! Banelé is Singapore’s first and probably only banelé specialty home-based business, and they’ve just opened their first physical store in Bukit Timah!

Tucked away above a supermarket in Chancery Court, Banelé features charming sunny yellow decor, modelled like a cosy little hut. The place is mostly a takeaway joint, but they’ve got some dine-in space available with communal seats and standing room by the windows.

If you’ve never had a banelé before, imagine a moist brownie-esque cake with the rich flavour of banana cake and Valrhona Guanaja 70% dark chocolate, coupled with the slightly crunchy exterior of a French canelé. The resulting hybrid treat is an indulgent chocolate-y banana-infused bite, that’s bittersweet and oh-so addictive.

Baby Classic, $2.50 each
There’s 3 different flavours you can choose from Signature Original ($6.50 each), Amande ($7 each) and PBJ ($8.50 each). Out of the 3 our favourite has got to be the PBJ, containing a peanut butter and raspberry filling to lend a more nutty and fruity flavour to the treat. If you’re looking for a just quick bite, or just a sampling of the banelé, you can get the Baby Classic ($2.50 each), a tiny bite-sized version of their signature banelé instead! The baby banelé isn’t listed on their regular menu, and is only on their “secret” menu, so iykyk.
