Chatuchak Night Market 2023 opens in Singapore today, and we snuck an exclusive peek into the stalls available before the market’s official opening so we can tell you all there is to expect when you come visit!
The famous open-air night market will be here for two months, opening almost daily (except on Mondays) with over 180 stalls selling some of your favourite Thai street food, handicrafts, apparel, antiques, knick knacks and more! There will also be about 200 seats with tables set up in the area for you to relax and enjoy your food.
Seafood lovers will be spoilt for choice at the market, with tons of fresh seafood options that are freshly made upon order in a multitude of ways: grilled, skewered, boiled, tossed in sauce and more! Must-tries are the Giant River Prawn (from $10.90/pc) in flavours like garlic butter and cheese, and Japanese Grilled Jumbo Scallop (3 for $10). There’s also a TomYum Seafood Bucket (from $25) and TomYum Mama maggie noodle soup ($10) if you love spice!
Crab lovers can also head to Crab & Burger, helmed by ex-Burger & Lobster chef, offering all sorts of crab meat-infused eats like Thai Crab Cake Burger with Green Curry Mayo ($8), Crab Omelette ($8), Chilli Crab Fries ($5) and more!
Head to the famed Roti & Chachak, coming straight from Thailand for assorted Roti Prata with fillings like egg, banana and cheese, plus Teh Tarik that’s pulled right in front of you with lots of theatrical spins, twists and turns!
There will also be a unique Lotus Rice ($10) that consists of glutinous rice served with assorted toppings like braised mushrooms, jujubes, ginkgo nuts and more—all atop an actual giant lotus leaf that’s specially flown over from Thailand! Classic Thai favourites will also be featured at the market, like Moo Ping Skewers, Pad Thai, Leng Zaab, King Octopus and much more.
For desserts, we can’t forget the classic Mango Sticky Rice ($6), or you can try some crepes (from $6), Baan Kanom Thai (from $5), Thai Coconut Waffles, and more! If you’re parched, go for something refreshing like the Mango Smoothie ($6), Paper Bag Thai Tea, Thai 3 Layer Drink, pop open a cold one (or two) at the Chang beer garden!
Aside from the massive array of food options, there’s also plenty for you to shop and do: with lots of stalls selling fashion apparel, accessories, jewellery, handmade crocheted goods, antique figurines, dog treats, snacks, sweets and more!
You can even enjoy services like a Thai Foot & Shoulder Massage from just $15, or an express gel manicure for $20! There will even be a fun play area with lots of claw machines and arcade games for you to play!
If you’re planning on heading down, you can either drive with free parking (limited parking space), or take advantage of the free shuttle bus services to and from Botanic Gardens or Sixth Avenue MRT Station.
