POPULAR DIM SUM RESTAURANT IN JB HAS HOMEMADE OLD SCHOOL-STYLE DIM SUM FROM JUST 70 CENTS SG

Heading to JB for breakfast? Here’s a popular (and affordable) breakfast spot that’s known for traditional dim sum, starting from just $0.70 a plate! Located just under 10 minutes away from the checkpoint is Restoran Kak Kak, a breakfast and dim sum joint that’s only open till 12pm!

Restoran Kak Kak has over 30 years of history, and  is famous for their homemade old school-style dim sum that’s steamed in gigantic wooden baskets, all at super pocket-friendly prices starting from just RM 2.50 ($0.70 SGD) per plate. The items are all handmade in-house, and even the baked items are freshly made in-house as well. Order from the counter by choosing what you want straight from the giant steamers, and pick your fried items directly from the self-service display. Each tiny plate has a pretty small portion of just 2-3 bite-sized pieces, so you can definitely order a variety and try all the different types they have to offer.

You can expect a wide selection of dim sum, steamed buns, porridge and more, with classic favourites like siew mai, haw gow, crispy carrot cake cubes, chee cheong fun, deep fried prawn rolls, braised chicken feet, egg tarts and lor mai kai, among others. But they also have other more unique options like meat-stuffed bitter gourd, otak otak, taro meat puffs, minced meat century egg, stuffed crabstick and much more.

Each item is priced by the plate colour/size, with plates of steamed buns starting from RM 2.50 ($0.70 SGD). Dim sum plates are priced at RM 5 (~$1.40 SGD) for normal items, while more “special” dim sum are priced at RM 5.50 (~$1.50 SGD) and extra special dim sum are priced at RM 11 (~$3 SGD). You can check out the pricing via the plates displayed on the restaurant’s walls. Make sure to come early (they open from 6.30am!) or expect a wait as the place gets pretty packed at peak breakfast time!
