The viral Van Gogh immersive experience has just opened in Singapore, and if you just can’t get enough of Van Gogh’s works, we’ve got a special dining experience that’ll be right up your alley! Fairmont’s ANTI:DOTE has just launched their new Vincent Van Gogh-inspired Afternoon Tea so you can have a piece of Van Goh’s iconic works and even eat it too!
This Season of Impressionists Van Gogh-inspired high tea is the first of a 4-part series of art-inspired afternoon teas, and is centred around one of Van Gogh’s most iconic works: Sunflowers. Guests can expect a thoughtful selection of edible art with sunflower-themed sweets and savouries in bright and cheerful hues.
Our first impression of the pretty sunflower-themed set is that it’s truly a feast for the eyes, and is something art lovers will definitely enjoy. Just look at the intricate flower details for each item! What caught our eye first was the tiny easel with an actual “painting” of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.
This treat is actually one of our favourites from the sweets selection, and you’ll definitely enjoy it if you’re a fan of chocolate. Cut through the “painting” and you’ll find a molten chocolate ganache with hazelnut praline that’s the perfect balance of sweet and nutty without being overly cloying. For some respite from all the sweetness, go for the Raspberry Mascarpone Sunflower Financier that has a little bit of tartness. The Sunflower Praline Pot is also a fun item to eat and makes for the perfect IG-worthy shot.
For savouries, we especially enjoyed the Pork Bulgogi with Parmesan Mash, which is very much like a mini shepherd’s pie with a delicate and flaky crust. The Smoked Salmon in Saffron Brioche is also super pretty to look at, topped with a delicate sun cutout, and tastes like your classic smoked salmon sandwich with pops of umami from the ikura pearls.
Other items served in the afternoon tea include a Green Tea Bun with White Egg Mayonnaise, Sous Vide Lobster in Sunflower Seed Bread, Duck Rilette in Lemon Blinis, Yuzu Marshmallow, Verbena Yogurt and more. The set also comes with an assortment of scones that fit the theme as they’re dotted with sunflower seeds! For the full menu, see here.
The afternoon tea also comes with your choice of refillable tea, or you can choose to up the ante with either a cocktail ($22) or mocktail ($17), both specially curated to fit the sunflower theme. You can also choose to add on one or two amuse bouche, though in our opinion the regular high tea is plenty filling on its own.
ANTI:DOTE’s interior has also been given a Van Gogh-esque facelift, with pretty yellow sunflowers decorating the space, and replicas of Van Gogh’s iconic works as well. There’s even a little outdoor photo spot at the entrance of Fairmont with faux grass and sunflowers for all your sunny OOTDs.
Is the Season of Impressionists Afternoon Tea worth the try? We say: definitely yes, especially if you’re an art (or Van Gogh) fan as the aesthetics and the details of the set are truly quite beautiful. But beyond visuals, the overall aesthetic and novel concept is also backed by taste, and definitely makes for a hearty high tea affair (or a light meal for small eaters).
Season of Impressionists Vincent Van Gogh-inspired Afternoon Tea is priced at $58++ per person and comes with your choice of specialty tea or coffee. Add one amuse bouche to the set for $70++ per person, or two amuse bouche for $75++ per person. This afternoon tea is a collaboration between ARTiSTORY and National Gallery, London, and will be available at ANTI:DOTE from 3rd March till 2nd April 2023. The set is served daily from 12pm to 2pm and 3pm to 5pm; and you can make your reservations here.
