Things To Do This Weekend (24 – 26 February 2017)

Big acts are set to hit our shores, with the highly anticipated Guns N’ Roses Not In This Lifetime Tour happening right here in Singapore this weekend. Other huge events include the biggest Holi event to be organized in Singapore, and one of the largest artisanal markets that expects to see a turn out of over 80,000 visitors.

For the first time ever, Guns N’ Roses will be performing in Singapore alongside guests Wolfmother and Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown. As one of the bestselling rock bands of all time, Guns N’ Roses’ regrouping was highly anticipated news since a few of their members left in 2015.

2. Singapore’s Biggest Holi

Join in on the colourful festivities at this year’s biggest Holi where local and international DJs will keep the music going. There will also be Singapore’s 4 best Dholis (traditional Indian drums), live band performances, international dancers from Moshi Moshi Bollywood, imported Bavarian beers, custom formulated Longdrinks by mixologists, photobooths, and decadent food by Anglo Indian Cafe & Bar.

Treat your loved one to a special night out at Say It With Love at Gardens by the Bay. Take part in an array of activities including filling in a wall of illustrations with the artists from the Band of Doodlers, awe at LED stilt walkers or just chill to the eclectic tracks by DJ Natalie Pixiedub. You can also purchase a picnic bag that comes with a mat, snacks and a choice of either wine, a platter of finger food or a box of sandwiches, as well as a reserved picnic area. Movies like Magic in the Moonlight (24 Feb) and Fantastic Mr Fox (25 Feb) will be screened under the stars.

4. The Stop Art Market 2017 by Singapore Art Museum X The Local People for Singapore Biennale

What better way to end off this year’s Singapore Biennale with a collaboration between The Local People Art Market and Singapore Arts Museum. The art market features unique art, craft and retail stalls, delicious food, a dunking machine where proceeds will be donated to charity, a DIY wrapping paper booth, craft beers and live performances by local artistes.

A collaborative effort between Travel Revolution (a bi-annual travel event organized by the Singapore Outbound Travel Agents Association (SOTAA) ) and Makers Market, Wanderlust Market is one of the largest curated artisanal market in Singapore spanning 2 expo halls in Marina Bay Sands. There will not only be local but also international vendors selling products ranging from quirky handmade creations to delicious food and more.

Last staged here in 2007, critically acclaimed The Pillowman is back with original leads Adrian Pang, Daniel Jenkins and Shane Mardjuki. A dark-comedy dealing with fantasies, lying just for the sake of it, and selfishness, it centers around the interrogation of a writer regarding a series of child murders that resemble killings in the fairytales that he wrote. The Pillowman won the Olivier Award for Best New Play, and the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best New Foreign Play.
