We’re heading in to our last weeks of October – gear up for Halloween with our list of halloween events. For the faint-hearted, there are still some Halloween-themed events that will not induce a panic attack, as well as exhibitions and art shows to keep you entertained.
1. Nightmare on Clarke Street
Don’t worry, you won’t run into Freddy Krueger here, but you might meet some zombies on the streets. In the post zombie apocalypse-themed event, there two scare stations, the “Abandoned Hotel”, and “Bloody Butcher Shop” for the braver crowd. If you’re not down to be frightened, enjoy the live music and performances and head to the pop-up Highlander bar for specially concocted Halloween booze. Also available are face painters and an airbrush tattoo artist to make your get-up extra special. Look out for special deals and themed parties at many outlets around Clarke Quay.

2. Halloween at The Projector
Besides screening 3 cult horror flicks, The Evil Dead, Ghostbusters, and What We Do In The Shadows, the Projector will be holding Asia’s first ever female-centric horror film festival. Scream Queen Filmfest Tokyo is an annual film festival based in Tokyo, supporting the underrepresented voices of women in the film industry. The Lovewitch Witch and 20 shorts films from all around the world will take on the big screen.

3. Beats, BBQ & Booze: Halloween Edition
If you are free on a Monday and are looking for more Halloween parties, we have got what you’re looking for. In this Día de los Muertos (the ‘Day of the Dead’) themed party, you can look forward to what the Mexicans produce best – tequila and tacos. There will be free face painting from 6pm-8pm on a first-come-first-served basis, as well as games like beer pong and cornhole.

4. Dawn of Youth
The genesis of an artist’s journey is always a tough but exciting one. Dawn of Youth showcases 4 budding artists from Japan and Singapore – Japanese print artists, Nakazato Aoi, Tomone Sano, Miyuki Takashima and Singapore ceramic artist, Zestro Leow. The exhibition hopes to give fledgling artists a platform to feature their work alongside established artists.

5. Last Weeks With Rochor
Come together to commemorate the iconic Rochor Centre – for the last time before it is demolished – through a photo exhibition organised by students from Nanyang Technological University’s (NTU) Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI). The exhibition will provide insight into the lives of shopkeepers and residents, many of whom have lived and worked in the estate for over 30 years. It will also showcase the lives of four families as they move out of Rochor Centre as well as items and memorabilia from their years in the estate. There will be old school games like chapteh and pick-up sticks, as well as a photo-hunt that encourages the public to capture moments with the iconic state.

6. Power Records by Kult
This is the last weekend to head over to Kult Gallery to relive some old school magic by digging through crates of vinyls. The gallery has been transformed into a record store and will be selling vinyls and record players alongside holding some fringe events (which have since passed). A throwback exhibition would be incomplete without era-inspired art like favourite hits from the UK Top 40 Countdown in the 80s made into soda pop bottles, and installations inspired by David Bowie.

7. Paper – Sight
Paper – Sight is the first solo exhibition in Singapore by Japanese artist Shinro Ohtake. His expertise in print and paper making is evident in the large scale fluorescent paper-pulp paintings which are a technical accomplishment. Ohtake’s artwork often feature heavy layering and motifs of nature and objects found in his daily life. STPI will be exhibiting 30 of Ohtake’s 140 unique and edition works that he has produced during his residency at the Gallery.
