First kunafa, and now mochi? If you’ve visited some of Korea’s cafés, you might have come across the viral mochi cake; and you can now get it in Singapore too at this popular café in Hougang!
Sweedy is known for their chunky “fatcarons” and matcha drinks, and they’ve just launched a new series of Mochi Bento Cakes: a mini cake cake stuffed with various cream and fillings, topped with a layer of soft, stretchy mochi. Inside the mochi cakes are layers of sponge cake, and various flavours of cream or fruits—all of which are freshly homemade.

Currently, there are 4 different flavours you can choose from: Chocolate Banana ($14.80), Strawberry Cream ($14.80), Strawberry Matcha ($15.80) and Crispy Pistachio ($15.80). Our favourite was the Strawberry Cream: light and fresh with juicy chunks of strawberry. If you like something a little richer, the Chocolate Banana and Crispy Pistachio are great too; the Chocolate Banana is a classic pairing with bittersweet chocolate cream, while the Crispy Pistachio features thick and creamy kunafa-infused pistachio filling.
While the mochi and cake layers are pretty light, the cakes can get a little jelak after a couple of bites, so we would definitely recommend sharing one among friends. Otherwise, the mochi cakes can be kept in the fridge for up to 2 days—the mochi itself will still remain soft and won’t harden when chilled. The Mochi Bento Cakes are an exclusive item at Sweedy that’s only available for pre-orders, mainly via their TikTok live session on Thursdays at 8.30pm. If you missed their TikTok live session, you can also pre-order via their website on Thursdays until 11.59pm. Pre-orders will be available for collection at the café on weekends, from Friday to Sunday. A very limited quantity will also be available for walk-in purchases on Saturday and Sunday, while stocks last.
