1. Hey Slow Joe

Like the name suggest, slow it down at this hidden industrial-style café tucked away in the quiet neighbourhood of Farrer Park at the 1953 condominium. The space is pretty compact, with limited dine-in seating, so be prepared to have your drinks and bakes for takeaway.

They’re known for their coffee drinks starting from $4, and a more refreshing signature creation called the Magic Joe ($6), a concoction of yuzu, sparking tonic and blue pea tea that’s perfect on a hot day. You can also get one of their signature tarts that are made in-house, like the Lemon Tart ($8), Chocolate Hazelnut Praline ($8) and other bakes from their display.

2. Creme by LÉLE Bakery

Still not over the Barbie hype? This all-pink gelato café is right up your alley. Creme is the latest dessert concept by the popular LÉLE Bakery, known for their chiffon sponge cakes and custom cakes. Creme features an adorable pastel pink, sky blue and mint interior that makes a great backdrop for OOTDs.

Aside from their signature handcrafted cakes that you can have try by the slice, Creme also has tarts, handmade waffles and a wide selection of gelato flavours that you can have in a cone, cup or with brownies. 3. Café Wabi Sabi

The quaint little neighbourhood of Everton Park is known for its many hidden gems and café spots, and Café Wabi Sabi is the newest kid on the block. Café Wabi Sabi is a Japanese-style café with a raw, industrial-inspired aesthetic, with moody greys, limewashed walls and soft, curving accents.

Aside from coffee and light bites, the café offers a range of relatively affordable donburi sets starting from a pocket-friendly $14.90, and each set comes with miso soup. 4. Love, Joy & Coffee

This café is the sister concept of Grace Espresso, located within the bustling Velocity mall in Novena. The café’s minimalist light wood interior and cosy open-air space provides a welcome respite from the busyness of the rest of the shopping mall.

The café’s specialty menu item is Hoagie Rolls, a type of soft bread roll or sub that’s cut in the middle and stuffed with various sandwich-style ingredients. Love, Joy & Coffee’s Hoagie Rolls come in various options like the Dragonball Sub ($11.80), Truffle Mushroom ($12.80) or Yoghurt Chicken ($10.80), among others. They also have brioche french toasts and other light breakfast-style eats, along with specialty coffee and drinks.

This popular low-calorie gelato house has just gotten a revamp in their interior, and now features a glasshouse-esque space that overlooks the city, and a sleek industrial-inspired decor with silver furnishings and camping-style chairs.

You’ll be able to enjoy their famous handcrafted low-cal and low sugar ice cream by the scoop, in bowls or by the pint. You can DIY your own ice cream bowl from $6, and customise them with your choice of toppings and drizzles. Flavours include the likes of Strawberry Sakura, Kaya Pandan Crisp, Ube, Earl Grey Lavender and more.

If you’ve been to the popular Sweet Cheeks café before, you’d remember their minimalist, Japanese-inspired interior with light and creamy tones. Well, they’ve since done away with all that and have gotten a new facelift.

The new interior of their Lavender flagship store boasts artsy and quirky Y2K vibes, with unique statement furniture and accents that make the space look like a design studio or aesthetic furniture store instead of an ice cream café! As for the menu, nothing much has changed, and you can expect the same gelato and waffles that they’re known for.

7. Park Bäckerei

If you love pretzels, you’ve got to check out Park Bäckerei in the CBD for some authentic, traditional German-style pretzels and bakes! This is Singapore’s first-ever German pretzel bakery, boasting rustic lye-dipped breads and handcrafted pretzels.

Park Bäckerei’s pretzels are unlike any other pretzel you’ve seen before, made the “Swabian” way with a plump “belly” and skinnier ends. The pretzels start at $2.50 each for a mini version, and from $3.90 each for the standard size. Aside from pretzels, they also have other unique bakes like a hedgehog-shaped Karamel Igel ($4.40) and more.

This popular home-based baker has just opened her first physical store, with the same good ‘ol honest bakes. The new brick-and-mortar store is a takeaway-only joint, where you can see the goods before buying.

All bakes are lovingly handmade with fresh and natural ingredients, and the menu changes monthly. For August, expect treats like Chocolate Rum Cherry Tiramisu ($16), Coconut Yuzu & Lychee Mochi Donut ($4), Rosemary Pistachio Cranberry Cookie ($3.80), Dark Chocolate Lavender Espresso Brownie ($5.50) and more.

9. JustIN Gastro Café

10. NOWAFTER Café

This is probably one of the hottest café openings in August: located right above Design Orchard, NOWAFTER Café boasts a minimalist and monochromatic interior that resembles that popular NUDAKE café in Korea.

Snap your aesthetic OOTDs in their grunge, industrial-inspired glasshouse-esque space, accented with sleek silver furnishings. They even have an IG-worthy Charkey Bun ($13) that resembles the iconic black brioche bun from NUDAKE!
