Everton Park has long been known as a great spot for hidden café gems, and Rituals of Kora is the newest addition to the hood. Taking over the space that used to be The Flour Department, the space has a cosy and dimly-lit vibe; with dark brown hues, raw exposed brick walls and wood furniture.

The café gives off a homey ambience, with plush sofa seats that make it feel like you’re hanging out at a friend’s house. Rituals of Kora is the brand’s second opening, with the first being Kora Bakehouse at International Plaza. The new Everton Park opening is matcha-forward, with a matcha bar where you can watch each matcha drink being whisked fresh-to-order. Matcha drinks start from $7.90, with options like straight ceremonial matcha, matcha lattes and signature curated matcha drinks.

They’ve got a total of 5 different grades of premium matcha powder options you can choose from too, with all their matcha powder imported directly from the source—various matcha farmers in Kyoto. Matcha purists will have plenty of choice depending on their flavour preference: from light, creamy blends, to umami, or strong and bitter matchas. If you’re not sure what to get, we recommend trying one of their curated matcha creations, with unique flavour combinations you might not find elsewhere.

Maple Earl Grey Matcha, $11.90; Toffee Nut Cloud Cold Brew Coffee, $7.50

Blue Pea Coconut Matcha, $11.90
Our favourites were the Maple Earl Grey Matcha ($11.90) and Blue Pea Coconut Matcha ($11.90). The latter was subtly sweet from the maple, with the classic aroma of earl grey-steeped milk; while the former is made with coconut milk, an interesting switch from the usual coconut water and matcha combo. Both drinks were creamy with umami notes.

Blue Pea Coconut Matcha, $11.90; Supernova Matcha, $9.50
For something a little more unique, you can go for their Supernova Matcha ($9.50), a fruitier matcha drink that includes 2 kinds of homemade fruit additions: mango puree and strawberry compote. The 2 fruit flavours surprisingly went well together, and you can think of this as an upgrade to the previously-viral strawberry matcha latte. For non-matcha drinks, they’ve also got options for hot tea, coffee and cold brew teas on the menu.

Kora also serves homemade bakes that are baked fresh daily, starting from $4.50 each. There will be a rotation of various different bakes each day, with options like chunky cookies, cake slices, brownies, pies and more. Some standouts from the bakes selection include their Black Sesame Mochi Cookie ($6.50), which was nutty and stuffed with a whole black sesame mochi ball. Mochi lovers will also enjoy their Mochi Brownie ($6), featuring a slab of rich and moist brownie stuffed with a chewy layer of mochi.

If you’re a matcha lover, definitely add Rituals of Kora to your list of matcha spots to hit up: especially if you like your matcha rich and intense. We also liked how you can customize your sweetness level and also switch our regular milk for other milk alternatives at no extra charge. Soon, they’ll also be offering retail items for sale in-store, including matcha powder tins, chawans, chasens and other drinkware. Rituals of Kora is primarily a takeaway-only spot, but you’re welcome to take a pause and sit at their indoor or outdoor area to enjoy your drinks and bakes too.
