Unconventional doughnuts from Japan

My sweet-toothed folks, life just got even sweeter for you because Haritts Donuts & Coffee is opening a flagship store here in Singapore and their doughnuts are not to be underestimated!
Hailing all the way from Japan with outlets even in Taiwan, queues form outside their stalls every day, and customers have to be limited to just 3 pieces – that’s just how popular these pastries are.

Haritts Donuts & Coffee 7The insides of Haritts’ doughnuts are fluffy with plenty of air pockets!

Unlike the usual doughnuts that we’re more familiar with, Haritts’ are chewier and less dense, with a consistency that brings to mind mille crepe cakes. That’s because every doughnut is carefully handmade with a special flour-to-water ratio.

Beyond the storefront

In order to make sure that the quality of the doughnuts is on par with the ones available in Japan, founders Haruna and Itsuki both flew down from Japan to train the staff personally and impart their kneading and baking techniques.

Only premium ingredients sourced directly from Japan are used, including Japanese flour and matcha powder from Uji, Kyoto, and it takes about 2 hours to make a single batch of 60 doughnuts. As a result, only 300 doughnuts will be available each day, so don’t say we didn’t warn you – head down early if you don’t want to be disappointed!

Flavours available

There are over 40 different flavours available, but only 10 kinds will be produced each day.
Staples like Plain, Choco, Cream Cheese, and Macha will remain a constant for you to dig into, and seasonal and unique flavours will be rotated. Think Earl Grey with actual Earl Grey tea leaves infused in it, Choco Banana, Carrot Honey, and even Pineapple Cheese.

Singapore-exclusive flavours like Kaya will also be available, and guess what – the kaya filling is made in-house from an original recipe that’s been fine-tuned intensively over 3 whole weeks!

The grand opening

The cafe-cum-takeaway store will officially launch sometime end May, but those eager to try out the famed donuts can check their Facebook page and Instagram for updates on the exact date! Its alfresco area will be able to seat an estimated 10 pax, and its bar counter – a unique find at a donut store – will be able to seat 5 more.
Coffee beans are from Homeground Coffee Roasters, so coffee aficionados can expect a quality cuppa to go along with your donut. Not to worry if you’re more of a tea person either. There’ll be a wide range of tea leaves from Clipper stocked!
