We’re not one to throw around the phrase “hidden gem” lightly, but this underrated spot in Orchard might just be one of the true hidden food gems in Singapore.
Tucked away in Far East Shopping Centre is Shashlik Restaurant, a one-of-a-kind Russian-Hainanese restaurant—a harmonious blend of cuisines that we rarely see served together in Singapore. The highlight at Shashlik is definitely their tableside trolley service, with several of their signature meat dishes, desserts and even drinks prepared via trolley right at your table.

Some of their classics include Escargots à la Bourguignonne (from $26), Borshch ($15), Oxtail Stew ($46) and Onion Soup with Pesto ($13)—which you can also make boozy with an extra shot of brandy on the side (+$4).
Shashlik of Beef, $60
For meat lovers, their signature Shashlik of Beef ($60) is a must-order: lean beef tenderloin skewers that have been infused with their house marinade for 24 hours. The beef is so flavourful on its own that no additional sauces are necessary for the tender meat to shine. The dish is brought to your table on a trolley and finished on a sizzling hot plate.
Blue Fire Ribs, from $50
Another meat dish that’s worth trying is their Blue Fire Ribs (from $50) featuring either a half or full slab of fall-off-the-bone pork loin ribs glazed with Hainanese sweet and sour sauce. The dish is then doused with dark rum and flambéd tableside to create that iconic “blue fire”—talk about a show.

Even their desserts are no less theatrical: there’s the Baked Alaska (from $26) that’s also flambéd tableside with dark rum, and also a Cherry Jubilee ($32) that’s prepared à la minute on a trolley and served with an ice-cold scoop of ice cream. Don’t skip out on their popular Russian Coffee ($23) either, a unique “flaming” coffee cocktail made with flambéd vodka and topped with generous dollops of whipped cream.
