[SHOUT REVIEWS] HONCHO: CHIC MONOCHROME LIFESTYLE VENUE WITH 6-COURSE OMAKASE FOR $68 PER PERSON!

On Wednesdays we eat omakase—at least at HONCHO that is. Nestled in a shophouse on Ann Siang Hill is HONCHO: a place that’s more than a restaurant, but also a cool and trendy multi-concept lifestyle destination that acts as a creative space for artists and talents to showcase their work, with a chic monochromatic interior and a pop of neon colour from the bar.

But if you’re just looking for some good food and drink, HONCHO is also the spot for you. And for those who love omakase, HONCHO has just launched a new Wednesdays-only mini omakase that you can enjoy in a vibrant and casual setting—unlike many other regular omakase joints.

HONCHO’s Mini Omakase, $68

Assorted Appetisers

Their mini omakase ($68/pax) is a hearty 6-course affair that includes a set of 3 appetisers, 3 sashimi, 3 nigiri sushi, a main dish, soup and dessert. Individual items served in the course also change seasonally, so what you see here might not be exactly what you’ll be getting during your visit.

Assorted Sashimi

Assorted Nigiri Sushi

Soy-Aged Chutoto with Negitoro and Sea Kelp

Mentaiko Salmon Aburi with Citrus Ikura

One particular standout item from the course are the sashimi, which were generously cut in thick slices—something that sashimi lovers are sure to appreciate. We were served hamachi, seared salmon belly and soy-aged scallop during our visit, all of which were super fresh and not fishy in the slightest. We also appreciated how HONCHO varied their nigiri pieces, jazzing up each piece with toppings like grated ginger scallions, negitoro and sea kelp and aburi-ed mentaiko with soy-aged ikura for something a little more unique than usual.

Braised Short Rib with Truffle Potato Purée

After the appetisers, sashimi and nigiri, you might be starting to feel a little full, but make sure to pace yourself as there’s still the main course to come! For our main, we were served Braised Short Rib with Truffle Potato Purée. The short rib itself is beautifully marinated and braised to a luscious fork-tender texture, and the salty-savoury taste of the meat pairs wonderfully with the creamy-smooth potato purée. We also loved that we could actually taste how the truffle flavour in the potato purée came through to lend an earthy-nutty aroma to the dish.

Clear Soup with Asari Clams

Mille Crêpe Cake with Gome Ice Cream

End off your omakase meal with the Miso Soup with Asari Clams (we were served a clear soup on our visit) as a palette cleanser and dessert. For a “mini” omakase, this meal felt much more hearty and we were definitely not left hungry by the end of it. In terms of value-for-money, you’ll be treated to a sizable course meal for just $68, with generous portions of sashimi, and ample portions of everything else. You can be sure you’re getting your money’s worth from start to finish. Note that the $68 mini omakase is only available on Wednesdays from 6pm onwards.

Jō@Honcho

Social@Honcho

HONCHO also houses two different bar concepts: Social@Honcho in the basement, and Jō@Honcho on the rooftop level. Social@Honcho has a more moody and intimate vibe, perfect for more bespoke cocktails and refined bar bites. For a more casual drinking experience with scenic and panoramic views of the Maxwell area, venture above to Jō@Honcho instead!
