1. Petals Fall, Now and Then by Chloë Manasseh

Art Encounters makes a fifth visit and now resides in Bugis Town, bringing to you a multi-sensorial installation by Chloë Manasseh that espouses on the power of imagination, the connection between the individual and collective memory, and identity entrenched within spaces.

The immersive space allows one to experience and embrace the sublimity of nature, all while breathing in the custom ambient scent of local fragrance label Scent by Six, specially created in collaboration with the artist herself. Unleash your inner artist by contributing to the community canvas, watching as each addition makes a new, priceless piece of art.

2. Renew Earth Sweatshop Pop-up Showcase

Sustainable fashion is all the rage right now, and with these Fashion Repair Ideation Workshops by Temasek Shophouse in collaboration with Post-Museum, you can learn how to take the necessary steps towards fashion sustainability. This program is geared towards addressing the prevalent issue of Singapore’s fashion waste through upcycling. With over 131,000 tonnes of waste produced in 2020 alone, these workshops hope to galvanise the community to sew and upcycle together, reducing the production of such unnecessary waste.

3. Voyage to the Vulva-Verse

Embrace female sexuality and sensuality with Voyage to the Vulva-Verse, an art exhibition by Strip that encourages participants to really dive deep into the mysteries and wonders of the vulva. Like fingerprints, vulvas are unique to the individual, no two vulvas are ever the same, and this means that each vulva requires personalised and special attention and care.

This exhibition will highlight the beauty of the female vulva through unfiltered and raw conversations, one-of-a-kind artworks produced by 8 artists featuring oil paintings, embroidery, digital illustrations, 3D animation, laser cutting and visual/soundscape.

4. Rock & Indie Festival 2021

Miss attending mass concerts and listening to live singing? Now you finally can, as the Rock & Indie Festival (RIF) returns to the physical stage this coming 17-18 September 2021. Happening at LASALLE College of the Arts, support Singapore’s local underground music scene, showcasing 14 acts debuting new music to a live audience. 

Expect indie acts like Houg, kotoji, Stopgap, Kitty Purrnaz, Forests, Amateur Takes and more!

5. Picnic in the Clouds 

You’ll be literally up on cloud nine with this Picnic in the Clouds presented by CÉ LA VI in partnership with Grey Goose. You’re going to want to bring your best drinking game for this adults-only event, as the package includes 3-hour free flow of Grey Goose cocktails, spirits, Martini Prosecco and beer, complete with an array of modern-Asian picnic dishes. Expect a fancy night out as this event even has its own white and blue dress code.

6. Echoes of Psycho 

Orchestra fanatics, this one’s for you. Presented by Red Balloon Series: American composer-conductor Bernard Hermann’s iconic work from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho is set to be showcased in this show, along with new string arrangements from Echoes and Souvenirs de Voyage.

7. Tropical Lab 15: Interdependencies

An annual tradition since 2005, this year’s edition of Tropical Lab titled Interdependencies takes an exhibition format that is more reflective instead of thematic, encapsulating the spirit of togetherness, companionship and resilience. 

25 artists from universities worldwide—from Bandung, Belgrade, New York, Plymouth, Tokyo and more—who have participated in previous editions of Tropical Lab from 2005-2009 will contribute their recent works as well as initiate new projects for the exhibition, as an expression of the love and affection they have towards their experience in Singapore.

8. The People’s Gallery

Who said art only belonged in museums? Experience art right at your doorstep at The People’s Gallery, a specially curated collection of artworks right at the void deck of your HDBs, brought to you by National Gallery Singapore.

A truly futuristic way of viewing art, empowered by technology, the gallery features works by Singaporean and Southeast Asian artists, and all you need to do is scan the QR codes using your smartphone. Found across more than 25 void decks across 8 heartland neighbourhoods, there’s no excuse for you not to go out to appreciate some art.
