Things To Do This Weekend In Singapore (22nd – 24th March)

Make the best of the school holidays by going out and enjoying the sun! This week is like a TV show come to life as cute characters from everywhere like San Francisco to Bikini Bottom visit our sunny island. Gudetama, Hello Kitty, We Bare Bears, and SpongeBob are all here! There’s also the world’s first ever Happiness Film Festival this weekend for those who are currently experiencing a quarter-life or mid-life crisis.
1. Sentosa FunFest 2019

Last year it was giant We Bare Bears. This year, it’s the Sanrio gang! Gudetama, My Melody and Hello Kitty are visiting Sentosa this March holiday for this year’s edition of FunFest. There’s going to be a 3m tall giant gooey egg on Palawan Beach – you won’t be able to miss it! After that, head to the beach filled with over 800 inflatable Gudetama lazing around. Lucky fans will be able to catch Hello Kitty and her BFF My Melody at various photo-points around the beach too – and they are even taller standing at 4m tall. So kawaii.

2. Happiness Film Festival

Unhappiness levels in the world is dropping, and while Singapore is not on the bottom of the list, we’re not exactly the happiest country in the either. We’re can get caught up in the rat race that we sometimes forget to enjoy the present. In possibly the world’s first ever Happiness Film Festival about , the opening film is none other than A Brave HeartThe Lizzie Valasquez Story which tells the story of Lizzie Velásquez who recounts her journey from a cyber-bullied victim to motivational speaker.
Other films explores other aspects of well-being, including feature films like Finding Hygge, all about the Danish concept about being ‘cosy’ and contentment, and Minimalism, which examines the important things in life that really matter. The festival also has invited guest speakers to share about their failures in Screwed Up Moments, and touching on how to discover meaning and purpose in life in the Happiness 101 experience.

3. We Bare Bears Pan Asian Tour

The cuddly bear bros will be visiting Singapore! Expect lots of food and fun as Panda, Grizz and Ice Bear take on our tourist hotspots. Scoop up limited edition merch like mugs and plates, or make your own We Bare Bears keychains and other crafts. On 23 and 24 March, you’ll even get to meet Grizz, Ice Bear and Panda in real life at Tampines 1 and Century Square as they show up to spread some paw-sivity with bear hugs! After Singapore, the We Bare Bears will be continuing their tour around other cities in Asia.

4. Nickelodeon Fiesta

Gather your young ones or the younger siblings and head to Clarke Quay for some cartoon fun with Nickelodeon’s popular characters. Find Dora if you can, or snap pictures with SpongeBob & Patrick, who have ventured out of Bikini Bottom to meet with fans. Side activities like painting lanterns and creating flower garland will keep the little ones occupied, and there’s even a Nickelodeon Fiesta River Cruise where you can take a cruise down the Singapore River. The themed River Cruise is free during the fiesta, although you have to get down early to register as spots are limited. While they haven’t released more details, you can definitely expect to get fun surprises on the way.

With a solid lineup of promising local acts from bands and dancers to art installations, you’ll be amazed at the burgeoning talents of our underground scene. Highlights include p71sma’s interactive dance piece ‘Longgok’, an interpretation of the human and the “unseen” in a modern time (aka trying to live anonymously in a world where there is little privacy thanks to the internet) and performances from FAUXE and Shye. 8. Sake Matsuri 2019: Spring Edition

The second edition of the Sake Matsuri is happening this weekend over at UE Square. With spring on our heels, you’ll be able to score limited releases and seasonal craft sake as well as other bestsellers from some of the best sake distributors. Entry tickets are at $45, but you get to taste over 200 different sakes from all corners of Japan and enjoy one full glass of a sake you liked. A colorful inflatable unicorn playground in Changi Airport Terminal 3 is every tokidoki fan’s dream.
